Before purchasing a coaxial cable, you need to understand one of the important parameters. When the RF signal passes through the cable, some of it is converted to heat and some of it is leaked out through the outer conductor. The signal loss is usually expressed in dB per unit length.
Attenuation is determined by the conductivity of the cable and the dielectric loss.
(1) [size] The conduction loss of the cable with large size is small, thus reducing the decay.
(2) [dielectric] The loss of the dielectric is independent of the size of the cable, and it increases linearly with the frequency.
(3) [conductor] Conductor loss increases with the square root of frequency.
(4) [temperature] As the temperature increases, the impedance of the conductor and the power factor of the dielectric increase, thus increasing the attenuation.
(1) The finer the cable, the greater the attenuation.
(2) The longer the cable, the greater the attenuation.
